During the realization of the artificial Lake of Bilancino, people realized this wet zone attracted many migratory birds, so it was decided to build an artificial wetland to accommodate the birds during their journey. Today it is not only an environment to safeguard this biodiversity, among the most at risk of disappearing, but also a place of smart leisure for adults and children.
There are plenty of families and couples that on Sunday reach the Gabbianello Oasis to have a walk or to go cycling in these wonderful 25 acres of forests, fields and pastures.
If you are fond of trekking, birdwatching or digiscoping, here you can enjoy very special experiences.
During migration there is the chance to see the White Stork, the Greylag Goose, the so-called Knight of Italy, the Pink Flamingo, and if you're lucky, the rare Osprey.
Inside the Gabbainello Oasis do not miss the Garden of the Butterflies, the favorite habitat of these animals, and the Shelter of the Bees that accommodate the little honey producers.
Moreover, you can visit the charming Ancient Collection of Fruits of the Medici, an extraordinary orchard designed to save 50 fruit trees typical of the Mugello cultivated since the time of the Medici Family now unfortunately in danger of disappearing.
The Oasis is generally only open on Sundays. From April to June on Saturdays too. It is closed in July and August. Solar Time: 10.30 AM to 5 PM. Daylight Saving Time 10.30 AMto 7 PM.
